FOOTBALL SIZES AND WEIGHTS

Footballs are being produced in several configurations and in different sizes but it is very important to choose a correct balls with right size and weight according to age group. Footballs come in the 5 Sizes and divided into 2 categories.

  1. Official Size
  2. Unofficial Size

The official sizes are 5 and 4, 3 while the unofficial sizes are 2, 1. The main reason for the difference in the size of a football is the ease and safe development of young players, as their skills and age increase. According to football federations around the world, small footballs are used for small players because it reduces the risk that the ball will injure them during the game. Different sizes of soccer balls are compared to determine which football (soccer ball) size is right for you.

Size 1: Balls are the smallest and are generally used for children under the age of 3. The circumference is between 18–20 inch or 46–50cm and weight 200grams (7oz) approximately. The ball could be produced in either 32 panels or 12 panels configuration. Mostly the ball is produced for promotional purposes and or commonly used for agility practice.

Size 2: Players between age 3-6 uses size 2 soccer ball. These balls are produced in circumference of 21–22 inch or 53–55 cm, the balls weights approximately 250 grams (9oz).

Size 3: Balls are designed for children under the age of 9. These balls weigh 320-350gram (11-12oz), with a circumference of 23–24 in (58–60 cm). This size could be produced in different panel configurations including 32 panels, 12 panels, 14 panels in different construction types.

Size 4: This soccer ball is intended for children between 8 to 12 years. The ball should weight between 350–390 g (12–14 oz), with a circumference of 63.5–66 cm (25–26 in).

Size 5: The regular size for both men and women above 13 years for high school, college, and professional games. The circumference of the ball is 68-70cm, weights between 410–450 g (14–16 oz.) and filled with 0.6 and 1.1 bar (8.7 and 16.0 psi) at the surface level.
